Large, black birds created from vinyl LPs bring the thought and work of Paul Villinski’s favorite musical artists–as well as several odes to Hoosier music–to life, sending them floating and flying into the world. Anthem is found in the 2nd floor Living Room.

Andrew Bordwin took these photographs in and around Indianapolis. Displayed on the 3rd floor of the main hotel tower, they capture fragments of messages briefly seen, only to be forgotten and then vaguely recalled later.

Adam Cvijanovic’s landscape painting, found in the 2nd floor Alexander Hallway, depicts Indiana from a vantage point of about 10,000 feet above the ground. By virtue of its scale, the landscape takes on an almost surreal rationality.

Found in the 2nd floor Living Room, Sonya Clark’s piece is a comb and steel depiction of Madam C.J. Walker, one of America’s first self-made female millionaires. In 1910, Walker headquartered her beauty empire in Indianapolis.

Damien Gilley created X as a fantastic super-blueprint of his experience in Indianapolis. The mural, located on the 5th floor of the main hotel tower, depicts the urban structure of downtown, but also the residential, predominantly horizontal expansion of the city that unfolds as you leave its center.

Mark Fox’s site-specific sculpture, near the 2nd floor guest elevators, is crafted of polished stainless steel and addresses the viewer’s relationship to their immediate environment–The Alexander and Indianapolis. The text appears to float in space with the words shifting in and out of legibility.

Graffiti artist Nick Walker’s colorful large-scale murals can be seen throughout the parking garage. The murals portray the artist as his alter ego, a “vandal” disguised as a quintessential English gentleman in order to get away with artistic vandalism. They incorporate abstract images of Indianapolis residents against an anarchic landscape that draws on the imagery of comic strips and traditional street art.

Designed by Jorge Pardo, Plat 99 is more than just a lounge, it’s a work of art. Pardo conceived it as an immersive environment, using gradated concrete block tiles on the floor and columns. He also designed the colorful, striking assortment of 99 pendant lamps that hang above the lounge.

Brian McCutcheon features himself with his 8-year old son, Angus, in his Alien Landscape series, which references historic NASA mobility studies where astronauts practiced on Earth to prepare for life in orbit. The photos bizarrely and amusingly reverse this scenario. Instead of showing real astronauts, they depict father and son dressed in handcrafted space suits going through the motions of mundane daily life in Indiana. The photos are located in the 2nd floor men’s restroom.
